Miss Laci H.

I had been keeping an eye on the weather for a few days before this session, it looked like it was definitely gonna rain. I believe Laci's mom and I had a conversation about rescheduling at least once. Then I decided to make the best of it, and told her to bring an umbrella. Sure enough the day came and it was all gray clouds and rain. We didn't let that stop us! The rain turned out to be what made that session so great! We did a lot of umbrella shots. Which are some of my favorites to this day. I found out she was a cheerleader so I asked her to jump around, run, and just have fun. She had no problem with all of that!

A few weeks before our shoot, I had found a pin on pinterest about how to photograph glitter. I wanted to try it so bad, I knew Laci would be the perfect one to try it with. I had the exact settings I needed for that shot written on my phone. This was September so I was still learning about the settings and stuff on my camera. I told her to cup her hands, I poured a bunch of glitter confetti in her hands. All I told her was to blow the confetti out of her hands when I said three! The photo that resulted from that moment is my all time favorite!

By the end of the shoot, we were soaked, and cold. But I wouldn't have it any other way. To this day if I have a session planned and they're calling for rain, I still don't cancel. I have been known to wrap a grocery bag around my camera a time or two.

Here are some photos from my time with Laci!

2014... Year in Review

I started taking photography a little more seriously when I got my first DSLR camera for mother's day this year. It was my dream gift, something I always wanted, but knew I'd never get. So imagine the shock and surprise when my husband gifted this to me! My instagram post from that day...

I have been lucky enough to photograph a bunch of amazing people this year. Friends, families, babies, kids. I honestly love every photo shoot I've done. There's something different to love about all of them. I've done a couple with some big, fun families. Some with some awesome kids that literally just ran around with me and had fun while I snapped photos. I was honored to be asked to photograph a balloon release ceremony in remembrance of a lost baby. I got to continue that family's story as they announced a new pregnancy. People actually used MY photos for their Christmas cards! That is so exciting and surreal!

Then there were days when I completely doubted myself and my skills, then I saw something like this on my Facebook page...

There have been weeks where I didn't get a single message at all...and weeks that I didn't have a single photo session. You know what? That's OK, It just means it's not my time yet. That doesn't mean I'm gonna stop. I'm going to keep taking photos, studying, and learning more about this thing I love so much each and every day!

The following are some of my favorite photos I have taken this year!

I started this blog about 2 months ago, so under some of these are links back to their blog posts with all of the photos from their sessions.

I want to thank everyone who allowed me to be a part of their family for a day to capture some precious moments. It was an honor and a privilege! I am hoping I will get the opportunity to do this many times over for years and years to come!
